A New Tradition Returns…

In January of  2020 (oh so long ago) when we could anticipate the rhythm of a week, EDGE started a series called “Sunday Stories”.  Each Sunday evening as families were preparing for a new week of work and school EDGE would share a children’s story read aloud on social media.  This quickly became one of our favorite EDGE activities.  So much changed in our daily lives when school moved to remote learning, routines were disrupted and the cadence of a familiar week became a thing of the past.

With the return to school, we hope families are beginning to fall back into a routine. Sunday nights once again becoming the “prep night” of the week as kids prepare for school whether that’s learning at home or in the building.  And we will return with Sunday Stories.  To begin with, many stories will be repeats until it becomes easier to gather to film our volunteers reading.  

“Read Aloud Everyday!”  “Read Aloud for 15 Minutes!”  “Did You Read to Your Child Today?” Do you ever get overwhelmed with all the parenting advice?   Reading aloud is one of those things that parents might feel like they don’t have time for, don’t do enough of, or simply are very uncomfortable doing –but they know they “should” be doing it and have guilt about not doing it enough.  Remember:  start small, start where you are and start today!  Pick up a book, a magazine or a cereal box and try reading it aloud to someone you love. Put down your phone, far enough away that you won’t hear it buzz, and keep reading.  That’s it, it’s that easy.

This works great when you’re waiting in the school pick up line, after the Drs. office, at the laundromat, etc.
