Citizen’s EDGE holiday food drive benefits NC Food Pantry

Press Release

During November, third graders at Hayward Elementary learned about caring for others from Mary Stevenson, volunteer from the local Community Food Pantry located at the Methodist church.

Mrs. Stevenson visited the third graders and read about George Washington Carver.

Third graders then led a school wide food drive. Students placed a feather on class turkey banners for every item donated.

Four hundred 40 (440) items were donated to help feed the Nebraska City community.

Fourth grade won the friendly competition with 180 feathers, and third graders walked over the items and placed them on the pantry shelves.

Community volunteers visit once a quarter to lead activities about being a super citizen at home, at school, and in the community.

Students receive books about famous Super Citizens and have the opportunity to take part in service projects in the community.
