EDGEwise

The blog, A Sacred Journey, describes a thin space as a place in time where the space between heaven and earth grows thin and the sacred and the secular seem to meet. This got us thinking …what if we were more deliberate in having the sacred and the secular meet. What if we didn’t have so many silos in our community…what if the church life and community life intersected more frequently. What if we shared information and ideas on a regular basis to advance the work of the entire community? What issues are our local churches facing that community groups can help with, what struggles happen for nonprofits and schools that churches might have insight into? We think there might be great benefit to having groups come together and looking at community data and trends.

Enter EDGEwise…a regular meeting of EDGE and the local faith community. The term “edgewise” often means barely. As in “I couldn’t get a word in edgewise” EDGEwise is our Thin Space. The place where the church community and the secular community can meet. We are asking churches/faith groups to come together with EDGE on a quarterly basis. This is a meeting for the lay members of the church, ideally 2-4 members from each church. Ministers and/or other employees are welcome to attend also. Our first meeting will be October 15 at 6:00-7:30 pm in the basement Arbor Bank. At this first meeting we will take some time to learn about the different ministries offered by our local churches and EDGE will share some local community data recently collected. Data which includes: mental health statistics, poverty growth and family trends. AND we will feed you a meal! To help us plan enough food and materials please RSVP to edgenebcity@gmail.comby October 10.
